Board Certified Pediatric Dentist
Fellow of the American Academy
of Pediatric Dentistry
Believe it or not, I’ve worked in dental offices in the Frederick area for over 25 years. I grew up here, went to high school at Frederick High, and attended college at Washington College on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
During my college years, I worked as a dental assistant as part of our team here at Frederick Pediatric Dentistry. From there, I went on to dental school at the University of Maryland, completing my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. I stayed in Baltimore to complete my residency in Pediatric Dentistry at both the University of Maryland Dental School and the University of Maryland Medical Center.
When I finished my pediatric dental training, I came back to Frederick Pediatric Dentistry to practice for several years, becoming both a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
After serving patients at Mt. Airy Children’s Dental Associates for several years, I returned to Frederick Pediatric Dentistry as the owner of the practice, following in Dr. Camacho’s footsteps.
A passion of mine is treating tongue and lip ties in infants and newborn babies. I have performed this procedure over 1,500 times. Treating babies as young as one day old, I work with many lactation consultants, pediatricians, and nurse practitioners in the Tri-State area to help babies nurse and bottle-feed properly.
I exclusively utilize the LightScalpel CO2 dental laser to safely accomplish this. The CO2 laser is extremely effective in safely releasing tongue and lip ties within seconds without the need for stitches, bleeding, concerns for reattachment, general anesthesia, or pain medication in infants.
For over 15 years, I have been delivering comprehensive pediatric dentistry, which includes working with children and adolescents with significant special emotional, developmental, and/or physical abilities.
We are very fortunate in Frederick and Hagerstown to have a myriad of resources for children with special abilities, and I am one of the lucky ones to be on that team. While most children with autism and other unique developmental abilities can be compassionately treated in the typical dental office setting, our practice also works closely with a pediatric anesthesiology team and local surgery centers to provide dental care for children while they are gently asleep for care if it is in the best interest of their safety and comfort.
I have always believed in the philosophy of treating all human beings as if they were a close family member. There is nothing more reassuring to know, as a parent, that your child’s healthcare provider is a PARENT FIRST. This is particularly important to me as a pediatric dentist because it is my sworn role, and that of our team, to ensure that we treat all infants, children, and adolescents with the utmost care, skill, and compassion. Not only does this ensure their safety during care, but it also helps them to feel more comfortable about going to the dentist when they become adults.
As one of less than 5% of Pediatric Dentists, I am a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. I also strive to stay current with evidence-based medicine, as well as organized dentistry, by remaining extremely active in various professional dental organizations. My main professional affiliations include, but are not limited to the: American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (Board Certified), Maryland Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (Past President), Frederick County Dental Society (Past President), College of Diplomates of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, American Academy of Pediatrics (Associate Member) ,American Academy of Pediatrics (Associate Member), and the American Society for Dental Ethics.
Family always comes first to me. My incredible wife, Kristen, is a gifted oncology nurse, and we have been married for almost 20 years. Our two wonderful boys, Jackson and Ryan, attend Frederick County public schools. Of course, we all adore our golden retriever named Sunny, who we think is the sweetest dog ever (we’re a little partial). Rounding out our family “zoo” is a bearded dragon named Shredder, and two guinea pigs named Marshmallow and Chocolate, along with a couple of freshwater aquariums.
Our family lives in Middletown, where we are active in local youth sports, various community events, Boy Scouts, and our church. We enjoy camping, fishing, hiking, visiting the beach, and traveling as a family.
It is a pleasure and privilege to care for your children, and I promise that my team and I will always provide your family with the same level of care that we give our own children and grandchildren. Thank you for choosing Frederick Pediatric Dentistry. We love seeing you!
